AUTOMOTIVE Q & A

Is a motor car driven before the road fund licence starts illegal?

Question: Is a motor car driven before the road fund licence starts illegal?

I spotted 4 "10 Reg " cars on the M27 on 31st March from about 6 o/ c. What fun it would be if they were spotted by the Police and had to be crushed.

A RFL doesn't start, it only finishes. (What's a "10 Reg " car? )

Maybe, but I believe that cars driven on Motorways are virtually under constant surveillance by APNR cameras, so are likely to have been caught, already. Likely the road tax was paid before the date of the first day of the relevant month, as it would have been so easy to follow up, otherwise.

The "10 reg " came out March the 1st NOT April 1st so they would be perfectly legal.

The "10 " plate actually started on the 1st of March, so they were almost certainly already licensed. Yes it would be illegal to drive a car on the road before it is first licensed, unless the car was displaying red and white trade plates.
