(Posted by: Tilly on 2010-06-20 00:58:10)
My 2001 holden rodeo 3.2 lt has a problem, the temperature gauge shoots to max withing 5 min of driving (but there is plenty of water in the radiator and in the water bottle) and the engine is only worm, the mechanic thinks it could be a sensor or something like that. my question is: dose any one have had or know what the problem could be. thanks in Advance I would apriciate only inteligent answers not stupid onces like morgans |

Ask your mechanic to pull out the temp switch and check to see if there are deposits on the sensor. These do the same thing as deposits on the positive terminal of the battery. He should clean the switch and place it back. If problem persists, then you may need to buy a new one. Why do silly people do what they do? Because they are silly, of course! |

5 min of driving should get the coolant hot enough to open the thermostat, unless its really cold where you are. Logic dictates the most likely answer to be a bad thermostat, or a water pump that isn't pumping. If that doesn't cover it, then you suspect the temperature sensing/ indicating system. |

Start the engine and let it run for 5 min or so. Feel the upper radiator hose [careful] Cool = bad thermostat Hot= let er run for a while longer to see if the fan comes on. Keep an eye on the temp gauge. If fan fails to operate you will need to troubleshoot the thermo switch, relay, fuse, and fan itself. |
