A mechanic quotes $1500 to replace cilinder head gas get water tank timming belt radiator themostate. Do this sounds right to you? Please give advice of what to do.

ok i just looked at a 2000 holden jackaroo what looked pretty nice. The one problem was that it didnt really start. The dealer said that they where driving it and it started blowing smoke and losing power. But other than that it was good. I know how to fix car my self but i want to know what was wrong with it and how much would it cost?it only has done 180000km. Its the turbo diesel.
