97 chev malibu. this is located front drivers side along the bottom beam that the rad sits above (don't know what that's called either). I would like to replace it but i just don't know what it is or what it's function is. It seems to be made of ceramic and has 2 wire leads coming out of it. Ballast? Ground? Induction Coil? Alien Space Probe? Can you help? Would really like to know what it's function is also. Service Vehicle Soon light is on. Car is running fine though. THANKS THANKS THANKS http:/ / photobucket.com/ dawnsbrokenmalibupart thanks. it IS weird. i am starting to think it is some kind of element. But it can't be for a block heater. That would be on the engine not the chassis...i think...

From the fuzzy pictures I'm guessing you live in Minnesota or some other cold place. It is a Dingus. A device added by the previous owner to heat the under-hood of the car in the winter time. Where do the wires lead to, that will give a clue. Definitely a dingus tho!
