Question: How will a driving wrong way in one way conviction and a careless driving conviction affect my auto insurance?
(Posted by: sbtlauien on 2010-07-28 08:42:54)
For the last 5 years I have gotten a speeding ticket every year. My license has been restricted(not suspended) 3 times in the last 5 years. With these two new convictions, my license will be suspended for at least one month. I currently pay $100 a month for auto insurance. What will the new monthly price be? Would my auto insurance price go down if I don't drive for a couple of years, or does one have to be insured and driving to get the price of auto insurance down? |

You can compare how the insurance quotes would change, for example here - autoinsurance.maclenet.com |

Insurance rates are set by the perceived risk the driver presents to the insurance company. They look at several things to determine those rates, age, gender, ZIP code, type of car, miles driven yearly, what it's used for, your driving record and your credit rating. With a yearly speeding ticket, a suspension times three, and another pending suspension, you can bet they are going to do one of two things, raise your rates or not renew your policy. I'd bet they will opt to not renew. Then you will have to look at high risk companies. |

As a general rule, all tickets remain on your record for 3 years and your insurance is based on this. So for any ticket that is over 3 years old, not counted and as each year goes by and any new tickets start the clock all over again for another 3 years. Even though they may not count anything over 3 years, by seeing you regularly have tickets yearly, license restricted/ suspended, they may still adjust your rates higher due to your past driving history and failing to stop speeding or driving like an idiot like in this last case. The fact that you are only paying $100 per month is surprising and would expect that your insurance would be at least 3 times higher per your record. At some point, no one will insure you unless you get "high risk " insurance and believe me that $100 will be cheap. My guess is that your only saving grace is that you have not had any accidents and with the last one surprised that there was no accident for driving wrong way and careless. You need to put your car on cruise and slow down. good luck |

As we have no idea where you live or who you are insured with no one except your broker/ agent can answer your question, so you'd be better off contacting them. However I can tell you a Careless Driving conviction amongst the insurers I work with is a 50% surcharge by itself, never mind all of you other tickets. |
