Hey guys, I need help here. My husband is in military and has USAA auto insurance. His mother, brother and I are on his policy. I think on the claim, is that we all "live in the same house ". However, I currently do not live with them. Is it illegal to claim this, and if I wasnt living with them can they still be under our insurance with USAA???...My husband owns the vehicle that his mother drives and his brother uses both car sometimes. PLEASE HELP

A vehicle that is not owned by a person who lives in your household can't be insured on your policy. Since your husband owns both cars it is perfectly legal to allow any of them to drive his/ your car as often as you want to if they are named as an additional drivers on his/ your policy. If they only drive it occasionally they don't even need to be a named driver. Check with your agent about what occasionally means. I assume you live within a reasonable distance of them. If the car is being used in a different state it might be OK but you should check with you agent because the rates for where the car is located are probably different

All you have to say to the insurance that you no longer live at the address but you still drive the vehicles. All the insurance companies care about is that all the drivers are listed for proper charges. Don't think they can charge you more just cause you no longer live at the house where the car is garaged. The only way the rates would go up unless the car is garaged at another location.

Check with usaa they will be able to tell you and should cover you regardless of your location as long as you remain legally married, thats the good thing about usaa they understand families may be seperated by where they live
